Wood Carving Studio
The Artists’s Studio
In Vermont the winters are long, and the weather keeps the sculptor inside away from his marble carving station. Not to worry though! Julian spends the winter bringing to life the ideas and images that have percolated in his mind for months, only they’re in Vermont hardwoods instead of stone.
A walk through the artists’ studio is a walk through his imagination, and you have to use yours to see what will grow out of the various pieces in the works. The works in the round are far more challenging and time consuming and often take years to reach completion. It takes a myriad of tools to bring these pieces to life. You will find hammers of all shapes, sizes and styles along with the large variety of carving tools utilized to create different textures and finishes.
The artist works on several different pieces in between the large works; some are custom commission pieces, and some are ideas that have finally reached the top of his list of things to create. You will find a variety of air-dried hardwoods of all shapes and sizes just waiting for their turn. To the sculptor – this inventory represents opportunity. The opportunity to create something special for just that someone special.
