The process of creating a Commission memorial or monument piece to remember a loved one or commemorate a special event is personal and important. The sculptor, M. Julian Isaacson, will sit down with you to hear the story that you want told, then work with you to create an image that tells that story. From the story, to the cartoon, to creation, the process is rewarding for both the sculptor and the client.

Julian technique is called “direct carving” where the “cartoon” or image is drawn directly onto the stone and the details are developed as he works. His skill is such that he creates movement, depth and emotion with hammer and chisel in his marble memorials and monuments. His specialty is Bas relief – two dimensional works, however he has created deep reliefs and works in the round by Commission as well.

His portraiture is another form utilized to create a memorial of a loved one – or to commission as a gift to commemorate a birth, a wedding, a birthday – any special moment in life. He also works in beautiful natural hardwoods to create bas relief portraits and commission works. As a memorial, Julian can carve the original in marble, and then create reproductions of the piece for other family members and friends.
